Malcolm
H.J. Willcox
Malcolm
Willcox is aged 54 and was born in Birmingham.
He is greatly honoured and immensely proud to be President of Conference,
which is the pinnacle of a very significant contribution to its affairs.
Malcolm joined the General Committee of Conference in 1981, and a year
later became Honorary Treasurer, an office he carried out with distinction
until 1991 when he was elected Chairman at a very difficult time. His
industry, enthusiasm and business expertise served Conference well. Its
finances showed a healthy improvement during the decade under Malcolm's
stewardship, and he always sought to raise the standard of the activities
of Conference. In particular, he was influential in expanding the group
insurance scheme and enhancing the quality of the yearbook.
The culmination of his chairmanship of Conference was the spearheading
of the organisation of the 6th International Golden Oldies Cricket Festival
held in Birmingham in August 1994. Malcolm's drive and organisational
skills ensured a marvellous festival, which brought much credit to Birmingham
and Conference. For this achievement he was voted a Cricketer of the Year.
On retiring as Chairman in 1995 he was elected a Life Vice-President of
Conference.
In 1996 Malcolm was elected to the General Committee of Warwickshire County
Cricket Club, and two years later, assumed his current position as Chairman
of the Membership, Marketing and Public Relations sub-Committee.
On the field, Malcolm joined Harborne Cricket Club in 1970 from the Birmingham
YMCA, and has been a useful all rounder; captaining the club at every
level as well as Conference on several occasions. When he retired as Chairman
after ten years in office, he was made a Life Member of Harborne in recognition
of this and the outstanding service that he gave the club during three
decades. He still turns out - but not as frequently!
After leaving school at 15, Malcolm qualified as a Chartered Certified
Accountant, and has been principal of his own accountancy practice in
Birmingham for the past eighteen years.
He is a prominent member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham, and it is not
surprising, considering his unselfish nature and the generous way in which
he has given his time - not only working for club cricket - that he was
elected President of the Club at the age of 46. Malcolm currently chairs
the Board of Trustees of the Club's Endowment Trust.
He has been married to Jan for 28 years, and they have two children in
their twenties.
